Here’s the Semi-Long Version
Back in 2001, I had to take over my wife’s cleaning business. She had to clean our 20,000 sq ft church, 3 beach condos, and other accounts.
Then….
She got pregnant! Talk about mixed emotions! I was already working, in my cable tv business. In & out of town, now, I just inherited, another part time business. Wow.
I was exhausted. I was frustrated. Needless to say, I was not happy!
It was at the time Adelphia went bankrupt, and Lost $25k, but it was a blessing in disguise…
We downsized to cleaning our church and let the other accounts go. All this time, we are thinking Adelphia is going to spring back and start to “rebuild”. The plans were on the table, to replace ALL existing cable to upgrade the entire plant. In the industry, it’s called, a rebuild.
My partner and I would have been totally, out of debt, riding on our Harley’s checking on jobsites. The plan was practically foolproof. I mean, we are talking about the 5th largest cable company in the world.
- Can anyone say…SCANDAL!
- Our company Lost $25K.
Anyway, I said all that, to say, I had to move and move quick, because, Time Warner was bidding on the company, as well, as another big company Comcast. We were hoping for Comcast, because, Time Warner already had there own contractors, which would boot us out.
…And so the inevitable happened, Time Warner took over and we lost our contract. I decided to Close that “chapter of my life” on cable.
Thinking on my feet, (By The Way, I had two kids now), and had to come up with something. So, I decided to get the cleaning business out of my wife’s name and transfer ownership to myself and started my own cleaning.
I took the least competitive field in cleaning industry and chose, Construction Cleaning.
It’s a 3 phase cleaning system.
Phase 1) Rough Cleaning
Phase 2) Preliminary Cleaning
Phase 3) Final Cleaning
Made Great Money and Worked my knuckles to the bone.
Even though I had “freedom”, as far as being my own boss, I was responsible to getting the houses cleaned, with deadlines. You had home owner inspections, closings and showcase pictures to be prepared for. It was stressful, to say the least.
My Point: You have to be flexible to change with the market around you, or you will work 3-4 part time jobs like I did. It’s no picnic.
Just a thought…Till Next Time!
Oh By The Way, if you are having trouble creating a product or service, you can always, sell and promote other people’s products and services and receive a residual income, as long as, you make a sell.
